Manual Handling is a physical activity that takes place in every workplace, and in some cases the activity does not pose a problem. However, it can be a potential workplace hazard when an employee is required to handle very heavy loads, which could result in a back injury. To help prevent manual handling injuries in the workplace, such tasks should be avoided as far as possible. However, where it is not possible to avoid handling a load, employers must look at the risks of that task and put sensible health and safety measures in place to prevent and avoid injury.
During this workshop, specific emphasis will be placed on handling techniques for lifting and creating a safety environment. In so doing, providing the participant with the requisite knowledge and skill set, which when properly applied, will assist the company in meeting its operational goals effectively.
Participants Will Learn:
- The definition of manual handling
- Manual handling operations
- Types of Injuries
- How to reduce the risk of injuries
- Hierarchy of control measures
- Handling Techniques
- Lifting techniques and guidelines
