Enterprises should have exemplary Occupational Safety and Health performance to ensure the protection of all people affected by work-related activities. Employers should have systems for assessing and controlling risks aimed at preventing harm to people from work-related incidents and accidents, thereby minimizing absences from work and disruption to processes, services and communities.
OSH performance is key to reputation management, particularly insofar as businesses depend on their relationship with global consumers. It can affect a company’s ability to attract investment capital or even the cost of capital itself, on which jobs and wealth creation depend.
The efficient management of OSH risks is best achieved by instilling a safety culture within the organization, adopting a preventative approach, installing effective internal training systems, applying risk management and control principles, and aligning OSH management systems with other business operations.
