In today’s environment where Industrial Relations (IR) and its many elements are at the fore front, companies should seek to ensure that the relevant parties are adequately equipped to handle arising situations. Collective bargaining specifically, is one IR element that is dynamic in itself. It may be seen as a process of negotiation between employers and employees (by way of representation) aimed at reaching agreements to regulate working conditions.
More and more companies are becoming unionized and are being forced to recruit someone in the relevant field. Some issues are being escalated unnecessarily due in part to how the issues would have been dealt with at the enterprise level between the management and the employee. Collective Bargaining Essentials provides the awareness to the relevant parties on how to minimize such escalations.
During this workshop specific emphasis will be placed on getting to yes; the difference between legality and custom (voluntarism); various negotiating styles; the importance of documenting; the economic, political and other key contexts for collective bargaining, and much more. In so doing, providing the participant with the requisite knowledge and skill set, which when properly applied, will assist the company in meeting its objectives.
Participants will learn:
- Steps in the collective bargaining process
- Negotiation tactics
- Interest-based bargaining
- Dispute resolution
