Occasionally, employment issues are unnecessarily escalated due to a lack of proper handling at the enterprise level between management and employees. For this reason, the need to recruit or develop skilled personnel in the field of Industrial Relations, has become more prevalent. The reality is that leveraging the concepts of industrial relations allows both employers and employees to understand each other’s needs and concerns, thereby establishing and maintaining a more harmonious relationship.
The sessions within this 3-day workshop have therefore been designed to assist participants in developing their toolkit for managing the employment relationship. In today’s environment where Industrial Relations (IR) and its many elements are at the fore front, companies should seek to ensure that the relevant parties are adequately equipped to handle arising situations. Collective bargaining specifically, is one IR element that is dynamic in itself. It may be seen as a process of negotiation between employers and employees (by way of representation) aimed at reaching agreements to regulate working conditions.
More and more companies are becoming unionized and are being forced to recruit someone in the relevant field. Some issues are being escalated unnecessarily due in part to how the issues would have been dealt with at the enterprise level between the management and the employee. Collective Bargaining Essentials provides the awareness to the relevant parties on how to minimize such escalations.
During this workshop specific emphasis will be placed on getting to yes; the difference between legality and custom (voluntarism); various negotiating styles; the importance of documenting; the economic, political and other key contexts for collective bargaining, and much more. In so doing, providing the participant with the requisite knowledge and skill set, which when properly applied, will assist the company in meeting its objectives.

- Negotiation tactics
- Interest-based bargaining
- Dispute resolution

Enterprises should have exemplary Occupational Safety and Health performance to ensure the protection of all people affected by work-related activities. Employers should have systems for assessing and controlling risks aimed at preventing harm to people from work-related incidents and accidents, thereby minimizing absences from work and disruption to processes, services and communities.
OSH performance is key to reputation management, particularly insofar as businesses depend on their relationship with global consumers. It can affect a company’s ability to attract investment capital or even the cost of capital itself, on which jobs and wealth creation depend.
The efficient management of OSH risks is best achieved by instilling a safety culture within the organization, adopting a preventative approach, installing effective internal training systems, applying risk management and control principles, and aligning OSH management systems with other business operations.
